Chief (Barr) Kelechi Eric Igwe, Ph.D is the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Nigeria. He was born to the family of Ambassador Chief Francis Igwe of Onu-Nwakpu, Ndufu Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He attended Umunneato Central School, Onu-Nwakpu Ndufu-Alike where he graduated with his First School Leaving Certificate with good grade. Dr. Kelechi started his secondary education at Boys Secondary School Okpuitumo but transferred after a year to Abakaliki High School (PRESCO) where he completed his secondary education. Thereafter, he commenced his university education at the Anambra State University.

When Enugu Sate was carved out of the then Anambra State, Dr. Kelechi continued with the then Awka Campus which became Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. While in the University, Kelechi was the President – Action for the Rights of Children International (AFORC) Anambra State Chapter, President – Enyim-Chukwu Students’ Union, Ikwo Local Government Area. In these positions, he used his office to positively impact on all those whose path crossed with his.

On successful graduation with LL.B Degree in 1993 from the Nnanmdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Kelechi proceeded to the Nigerian Law School Lagos. So, between 1994 and 1995, Dr. Kelechi Igwe was at the Nigerian Law School working to qualify as Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In 1995, he successfully bagged the revered B.L Degree from the Nigerian Law School, thereby qualifying to practice Law in any part of Nigeria.

Thereafter, he enlisted to serve Nigeria in the mandatory NYSC scheme and this patriotic voyage took him to the chambers of Niran Akinduyi & Co as Counsel-in-chambers between 1995 – 1996 where he developed an appetite for the practice of Law.

On completion of his Youth Service in 1996, he desired to touch the lives of people using the practice of Law which is globally viewed as a Community vocation. This he achieved through numerous Pro-bono Briefs while engaged in the busy Law Firm of Enechi Onyia (SAN) as Partner-in-chambers from 1996 – 1998.


In the later part of 1998, duty called and he became the Personal Assistant to the INEC National Commissioner. In this position, himself and his Principal alongside others, were saddled with the onerous responsibility of mid-wifing Nigeria’s democracy after many years of military interregnum.

In 1999, after successfully delivering on the earlier assignment, he became the Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Federal Republic of Nigeria, up till 2002. He also served as a Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Education, Federal Republic of Nigeria, between 2008 – 2010 and Member, Governing Council, University of Jos, Jos.



In 2002, he set up Kelly Chambers and became the Principal Partner.
While engaged in all these positions, he attended many local and international engagements including but not limited to 5th China Investment and Trade Conference, Xiamen – in September 2001; and as a Member, Federal Government Delegation to Nigerian Peoples’ Forum Washington D.C, in March 2000 among others.

Being a very development conscious person, he also found time to return to the classroom to intellectually equip himself and prepare for the challenges of the future. To this end, he completed his LL.M and Ph.D in Law from the University of Jos and M.Sc in Human Resource Management from the ESUT Business School.

Religious Life
Part of the secrets of Dr. Kelechi’s successful beats in life is his absolute faith in God. Having grown up in a decent Christian family of Assemblies of God extraction, he has continued to demonstrate uncommon spirituality in his dealings with people and issues. Having been brought up by parents who are reputed to be part of the brains behind the introduction, growth and development of Assemblies of God Church in the then Abakaliki Zone and Ikwo in particular, he has continued to exhibit a high sense of responsibility anchored in the fear of God – which has become like a family trait. He is currently a Deacon in the Assemblies of God Church.

Dr. Kelechi is a well known and celebrated Philanthropist who has touched the lives of many through quality assistance. Through his uncommon philanthropic gestures, the fatherless have acquired quality education, widows have been blessed and the physically challenged have found succor.

Dr. Kelechi Eric Igwe is married to Mrs. Ethel Nnenna Igwe and they are blessed with three (3) children.
